Fotografx is based in Stäfa, Switzerland, near Zürich, and is headed by the well known National Geographic photographer David Pluth.
FotoGrafx produces high quality tourism promotional materials for clients around the globe. We succeed by controlling the quality in-house from start to finish. We are photographers, videographers, script writers, copy writers, graphic designers and film editors. We specialize in photographing and videographing national parks, protected areas, eco-tourism, community-tourism sites, cultural sites, cultural events, art and museums, hotels and resorts for promotional, marketing and educational purposes.

Mr Pluth has more than 30 years of experience, has worked with ORTPN since 1997 and is a National Geographic photographer. He has done photography professionally for the Uganda Tourist Board, Tanzania National Parks, Ethiopian Tourism Commission and the European Union as well as for many hotels and luxury resorts. He has been the principle photographer on 5 books and he has done several broadcast videos for the above clients as well as commercial theatre-released films for American production companies. Mr Pluth holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary.
Ms Smaglick is not only a dynamic and energetic TV presenter, she is also a professional musician who has spent years in Uganda and Tanzania studying with African musical masters and dancers. She is the founder of the well-known cultural tourism company, Another Land, based in the US, and the African fashion export company Amias, based in Tanzania. Ms Smaglick was a student at the University of Dar es Salaam and speaks fluent Kiswahili. She also holds an MBA in Tourism from the University of Wisconsin in the US.
Mr Kaigua has worked extensively as a cameraman in East Africa and Europe on projects for Fotografx, CNN and BBC. He is a capable and seasoned professional cameraman and editor. Mr Kaigua is a graduate of the Mohammed Amin School of Journalism in Nairobi.
Mr Owongo has worked with Fotografx 1998 and has travelled with the company on photography and video assignments in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Australia and Vanuatu. As well as lighting and sound, Mr Owongo is also a skilled camera operator. He is a former travel and tourism mountain guide, with ascents of all the highest peaks in East Africa and recently assisted us in filming a climb of Mt Kilimanjaro. Dedicated, well organized and sensitive to local cultures, Mr Owongo speaks many of the regional languages.
Ms Petrak has extensive experience in Europe and Africa creating documentary and promotional films for TV channels ZDF, RTL and Bayerisches Fernsehen, and she has recently created commercials for the luxury German car maker BMW. Trained at the Film Academy Munich and the Film School Cologne, her subjects range from her acclaimed documentary series “Dictators” to the children’s program “Klugbeisser” to African wildlife promotional videos where she focuses on the scenic beauty of East Africa and its animals. For Pro-Sieben TV in Germany she recently authored the educational series “History”.
Mr T Casaretto has significant experience editing films and videos for television clients such as Discovery Channel, MTV, and European stations RTL, Pro7, SAT1, VIVA, NDR, ARD, and ZDF. Trained in Germany at H5B5 Media, he has broad film credits from the IMAX “OceanMen” to promotional videos on Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones to the wildlife documentary “Expeditions in the Animal Kingdom” and many programs for the science series “Worlds of Wonder”.
Mr F Casaretto is broadly experienced creating exceptionally high quality audio tracks on film and video for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Warner Brothers and other clients. Trained in Germany at H5B5 Media, his film work extends from the wildlife documentary “The Salamander’s Secret” to fiction movies such as “Malunde” to “OceanMen”, a 76min HD-24p IMAX documentary on diving. For National Geographic he created the sound track for a documentary on the scenic wonders of Andalusia.
Mr Briggs is a travel writer and tour leader specialising in Africa since 1986. Mr Briggs wrote the first modern guidebook to Rwanda in the late 1990’s, published by Bradt. His first book Guide to South Africa was published in 1991 and since then he spends half of every year exploring the highways and back roads of the subcontinent. He is the author of nine Bradt Travel Guides including Uganda, Mozambique, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Ghana, and has contributed to another dozen guidebooks published by Insight Discovery, AA Guides, Camerapix, Struik Publishers, JPM Publications and Which. He has written more than 100 travel features for respected wildlife and travel publications such as Africa Geographic, Africa Birds & Birding, Travel Africa, BBC Wildlife, Discover Africa, Wildside and Wanderlust.
From 1999 to 2001, Nicolas Michel was the Deputy Director of Alliance Française in Kampala, Uganda. Since 2002 he has been a writer and senior editor for the weekly magazine Jeune Afrique, and has travelled as a reporter on missions to Ethiopia, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Mauritius. He has diplomas in business (EDHEC, 1997) and political science (Institut d'Etudes politiques de Paris, 1999).
Mr Michel has created three novels published by Gallimard : Un revenant ,1999; Le dernier voyage d'Emilie, 2002; La Bleue, 2004. He has written two travel guidebooks, America and Brésil, published in 2003. Nicolas wrote the text for Eye of the Storm, a book about Uganda photographed by David Pluth and Pierre-François Didek and contributes to the French translations of many of our projects.

Mr Dutton is the principal graphic designer for our promotional brochures. He designed the ORTPN marketing brochure that is distributed internationally and which has been an acclaimed award winning design. He has also produced brochures for Tanzania National Parks, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, as well as working on many prestigious magazines in Europe. Mr Dutton is a master of computer design and graphics with a fine arts degree from Langley College in Windsor, UK.
